Hi, I am Leon Gettler, a corporate comms copywriter specialising in brand building for real estate agents, mortgage brokers, property finance companies, accountants, bookkeepers and financial planners. I build their brands with blogs, newsletters, ads and website copy by telling their stories. Every company has a story. I also focus on their target markets, the pain points of their customers and how they can solve their customers’ problems.

A CLIENT ASKED ME TO DO A LINKEDIN PROFILE TO MAKE THEM STAND OUT.

My client had been in business for three years. They had initially hated the idea fearing a profile would put them on unwanted mailing lists.

Besides, my client said so many linked-in profiles were fake. My client had now changed his mind and didn’t know how to put something together that would make them stand out.

I persuaded my client that a good LinkedIn profile was genuine.

The first thing I got was a good photo of my client. It helps create his brand.

I then organised a great summary for the About section of my client’s achievements. All of course in my client’s words. It was my client’s voice.  First, I put the important stuff in a nutshell. I had my client saying what he was known for. What was his value proposition? What was his identity? And how did his work, skills and business help other people?

But because it was his voice, it was really personal. I made my sure my client talked about his passions and why he set up the business. Who were the big influences for my client? Who did my client hang out with? What were his likes and dislikes?

I also made sure my client didn’t’ use buzzwords that LinkedIn hates like:

  • Strategic
  • Creative
  • Specialised
  • Leadership
  • Passionate
  • Experienced
  • Focused
  • Enthusiastic
  • Expert
  • Track record

In the experience section, I ensured my client’s business and work history was as specific as possible It had to be in chronological order, listing the establishment of his company at the top and then working down to my client’s first jobs.

With the academic qualifications, I  made sure my client listed the school, college or university and the degree. That included the from year and to year, and a description of the course.

To avoid getting on unwanted mailing lists, I contacted ADMA’s Do Not Mail Register on behalf of my client.
