WORDS ARE IMPORTANT FOR CLIENTS. WORDS CREATE THEIR BRAND IDENTITY, THEIR WEBSITE COPY, THEIR NEWSLETTERS, THEIR BLOGS AND ALL OTHER COMMUNICATIONS.
Get the wrong words, use the wrong tone, start shouting at people and you’ll lose customers. The right words will keep them.
Words have a real power. They conjure up images. And some books are so good that the words keep you there and you can’t stop reading until you get to the last page. Just ask Steven King.
HERE ARE MY FIVE TIPS FOR USING THE POWER OF WORDS:
1. The power of the client
This is the most important part showing the power of words. I introduce the reader my client and I show the prospect how my client can solve all their problems. My aim is to engage the reader, as if I am talking directly to them.
2. Remember KISS
Kiss is the term for condensed. Kiss stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. Or Keep It Short And Sharp. It’s important that I use short sentences and an active voice.
3. Avoid too many words
I don’t want to lose the attention of the audience by putting in too much detail. Effective copywriting tells my audience all they need to know and make a purchase or how to contact my client for more information. I don’t use extraneous words. I don’t want to clutter the minds of my audience. Too much clutter increases the possibility of them forgetting the most important aspects of my post.
4. Avoid jargon and buzzwords.
The problem with jargon and buzzwords is that they are so over-used that no-one knows those words mean. That can lead to misunderstandings and confusion. That’s why real leaders don’t use jargon.
5. Write human to human
While I know my client is talking to other businesses, it’s not “business to business” or “business to consumer”. It’s “human to human”. There’s a person on the other end reading it.
